Poke bowls in Canberra

I bet some of you might be wondering, “What on earth is a Poke bowl?” Put simply, it’s a delicious bowl of food and you really should be eating it…

But for the purposes of you persuading your friends to go and try one, the dish is heavily influenced by the Japanese donburi or rice bowl dish – most commonly filled with fish (usually salmon, tuna, or kingfish) tossed with vegetables and served on seasoned rice.

The Poke bowl is a perfect meal option during summer for its light and fresh flavours. Here are Canberra’s very best poke bowls to give you a poke in the right direction.

The Duxton is quite the establishment with a bistro menu suited to everyone. A tuna poke with puffed rice, eggplant, cucumber, nori and a delicious prawn cracker made the cut this season and we’re in love.

Kokomos always serves up those tropical island vibes and this is no exception. The Ahi Tuna Poke topped with avocado, sweet miso soy and tempura batel leaf sure does transport you to an island far far away from your office desk.

This Asian eating house is quite the spot, located in Braddon it’s quickly become one of Canberra’s most loved & instagrammed. Choose from a Salmon or the vego option Poke, with Sweet potato with shaved vegetables, pickles, edamame beans, cucumber, shiitake, rice, nori and ssämjang.
