A Canberra Girls Guide: Multicultural Festival

You’ve been loving our Canberra Girl’s Guides … so here’s another handy guide from one of our locals.

This time we’re talking about one of our most loved foodie events, the famous National Multicultural Festival. Be prepared to treat your taste buds to a plethora of foods and drinks from all different cultures from around the world.

Even if you’ve been before and have your favourite vendors – let us introduce you to some (possibly) new cultural treats.

MUST EAT

GREEK COMMUNITY OF CANBERRA

Loukoumades AKA Sweet Greek honey balls or donuts. Need we say more? Little bit-sized fluffy sweet honey puffs which are deep fried to golden and crispy perfection. A great entrée.

ETHIOPIAN EMBASSY

Fresh, light and tasty Ethiopian food – spicy meats and vegetables. Do yourself a favour and try this out – you’ll thank us later!

GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH

Greek Gyros – lamb or chicken with tomato, red onion, potato chips and tzaztiki sauce. There is usually a line half way through Garema place for this – so make sure you get in early!

HARMONIE GERMAN CLUB

“German sausages are the wurst”… We bet you haven’t heard that pun, like, ever! German sausages are actually the best, and you can grab a big bratwurst hotdog filled with sauerkraut and sauces of your choice from here. Tasty, but not too filling because next…. it’s time for dessert!

CHOCOBAB

Delicious chocolate kebabs and desserts. – Think chocolate kebabs with Nutella. More like a crepe then a heavy kebab these delicious treats feature a chocolate rotisserie which is shaved and put inside the tasty kebab.

DOS CHURROS

Authentic hand-made Spanish churros with sweet dipping sauces. If you haven’t already over indulged this mouthful of deliciousness comes in either an original or jumbo size.

DUTCH PANCAKES

Totally worth the wait of the long queues this delicious meal has us drooling weeks before the annual event. Choose between different toppings on these fluffy mouth fulls of goodness. Plus you get about 10 or so to a plate making them the perfect sharing item… so you can enjoy more cuisine’s.

KRAVE MORE VAN

Thirst quenching fresh lemonade and Spanish Margaritas and Vodka lemonade – hello!
