Stylish Spots – Why You NEED To See Sissa Sorella

If you still haven’t popped by Canberra’s newest shoe and accessory store, Sissa Sorella, (located behind cult favourite foodie hang double Shot in Deakin) do yourself a favour and take a look! The space is an interior inspo wonderland, filled with shoes, bags and accessory all laid out in a delicious pink space with accents of gold and stone. The vibe in this store is truly divine – warm, welcoming and so plush you will likely take a seat on the velvet couch and find yourself feeling so at home you forgot what time it is and where you have to be. Welcome to shoe heaven.

I sat down with owner, Kate, to find out more about the space, the range and what inspires her…

What can we expect to find at Sissa Sorella?

A whole lot of femininity, deliciousness and beauty. Sissa Sorella is about stepping into something very pretty, stylish and enticing.  Yes, it’s a show boutique primarily, however, I’ve curated a range synergistic with shoes; handbags, clutches, wallets, nail polish, socks and scarves.

What brands do you stock?

Exclusively to Canberra, I stock Maya McQueen, Spring Court, Senso, Zoe Kratzmann, Lokas and Lemon Jelly.   I also stock a range of Silent D, Django & Juliette, Alias Mae.   I am expanding my range come Spring/Summer with some exciting brands and styles.

Exclusively Stitch & Hide, Mooi, Innue and Charlie Middleton.

Why did you decide to open a shoe store and why this space?

Well, I was actually looking to open another food venue.  I’ve been in the hospitality/catering and event space for 15 years and it was just a natural progression.  Then this stunning space in Deakin, originally created by Pink Ink, came up for lease I was thinking of bulk health foods.  But the more I looked at the space and fell in love with it, I knew that this wasn’t the right fit.  I have a few passions in life, and one of them includes food and the other shoes.  So it really got me thinking about where I was at in my life.  A 10 year old daughter,  a husband still in the hospitality industry and working nights and long weeks, so a retail space where I could design my own hours and curate a collection of beautiful things that didn’t perish became an exciting proposition.    I’ve always travelled to Sydney or Melbourne to purchase my own shoes and always felt there was a lack of variety and a little gap in the market in Canberra for new brands.  So this concept was the one I settled on and I designed everything around this space in Deakin.

I wanted to create a Parisian laneway feel.  To add a retail vibe to a gorgeous, local shopping precinct.  With no other retail, it was a gamble.  However, the locals have been so incredibly welcoming and so generous with their positive feedback it makes me feel confident in my decision to create Sissa Sorella.

What inspires you creatively?

That’s easy.  Beautiful things, form, colour and style.
