The tale of: Charly Thorn

It’s the week of Fashfest 2018 and to celebrate how excited we are, we sat down with fashion designer, Charly Thorn to find out all about her latest collection before we see it on the runway.

Congratulations on being chosen to showcase at Fashfest 2018 again this year! What can we expect to see at this years show from Charly Thorn?

This year you can expect the unexpected. It’s my first evening luxe collection and I am super excited to be bringing some punchy colors and a custom designed exclusive print to the runway. Pieces easily mix and match. With colours, think vivid Cuban pinks, greens, blues and yellow.

How long have you been a fashion designer?

I’m 19. I put my first full collection on a catwalk at FASHFEST in 2016 and things took off from there. This will be my third appearance at FASHFEST. Before that, I put on a small show in Cooma, which was really special to me. With this collection, for the first time, I’ll be selling made-to-order garments through my website

When did you realise Fashion was your thing?

I’ve always known that I wanted to be a designer from a really young age–since I knew the word fashion. I think it takes time to build up confidence in your personal brand and style, and I’m still experimenting and learning everyday, but it’s exciting to see how each collection is received and I can’t wait for this one.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

This collection was inspired by bright equatorial life, vibrant colors, contrasting style and lots of fun!

Who inspires you?

I find this question tricky because so many people inspire me in different ways, I must say working with online retailer Birdsnest in their development team has been wonderful. I take inspiration from the beautiful Jane Cay (founder of Birdsnest), she has taught me to out-care everybody else, be humble and stay true to your core values no matter what.

What does being a part of Fashfest mean to you?

It means being a part of something bigger than just me and FASHFEST is such a professional show. I love seeing all the other designers amazing work and what they put their time into. I love seeing the collaboration between talents and who doesn’t love a night to dress up and talk fashion?

Where is your favourite boutique to shop CBR?

I haven’t spent a lot of time in boutiques between my few jobs, but I love rebel muse.

What’s next for Charly Thorn?

Off to Sydney to study business and fashion. I got accepted into Ultimo the Fashion Design Studio. Very excited! Hopefully will study abroad in the next few years and continue to love fashion, be inspired and learn learn learn.
