The top 5 places to cool off in Canberra

The weather in Canberra reaches the perfect temp around this time of year but it is no secret that it will start to heat up very quickly…

We’re telling you that now really is the time to ditch the air conditioning and explore all the outdoor swim spots Canberra has to offer.

Here are our top 5 picks for a fun afternoon splash and swim!

Pine Island:

Just around the corner from Tuggeranong Town Centre Pine Island is the pinnacle of picnic locations. Sandy shores, grassy paddocks, rope swings and BBQ’s mean all bases are covered for those perfect sunny days.

Uriarra Crossing:

Maybe you’re looking for that magical cool-off after shredding up the trails at Stromlo Forest. Just a little further down the road at Uriarra Crossing sits a vast watering hole to freshen up. Plus doggo’s allowed, need we say anymore?

Casuarina Sands/Cotter Bend:

Combining both Cotter Bend and Casuarina Sands may seem a bit rude, but both spots offer a point of difference that complement the perfect day out. Cotter Bend features the perfect grassy plains and BBQ’s perfect for celebrations, while Casuarina Sands has the volume to spend a day on the water. Being within touching distance we recommend spending the day out here and with camping spots just up from Cotter Bend, why not make it an overnighter.

Gibraltar Creek

Not only does Gibraltar Falls make for one of the most scenic spots to the south of Canberra but the swimming in the creek is some of the freshest water you’ll have the pleasure of dipping in. While the trek to the creek can be quite fun be careful when rock hopping and remember to always tred safely

Corin Dam

Just a little further down the ways from Gibraltar Falls sits Corin Dam. Apart from the stunning view and fun walk from the carpark, the bottom of Corin Dam makes for the coldest water you’ll get to experience. Maybe save this one for the hottest of days.
