Whether you’ve only moved once or you’re a seasoned packer, you’ll know it can be one of the more stressful things in life. Trying to coordinate a move and dealing with everything else happening in life can leave you overwhelmed. We’re here to share five of the best tips to help you stress less and make your move a breeze.
- Get organised
The best thing you can do is be organised. The humble to-do list can be a lifesaver! Double-check your move in date and pack your stuff in an organised manner. If you list everything that needs to be done, when it needs to be done by and include the costs you’ll be able to see clearly what’s a priority – like making sure utilities are connected before you move in. (we love candles but not on this occasion!)
- Pack things in order
It can feel like the quick and easy way to just throw everything into a box as you go, but by the time it comes to unpacking, you’ve just created a bigger mess for yourself. Start with one section of your home and don’t start another section until you’re completely done. In organising your belongings in separate boxes and then labelling them clearly with a Sharpie, you’ll know exactly what belongs where and what it is, which will make unpacking in your new home a breeze.
- Give yourself enough time
If it’s possible, take a day or two off work either side of your move in date. A lot of lucky people even get “moving days” specifically for this. Nobody wants to be juggling the pressures of work while trying to deal with moving house. The only thing you should be doing on moving day, is moving into your new home.
- Move your boxes into their “home”
It might seem like a great idea to just dump all your boxes in the first room you walk into, but this will create chaos for you as you unpack. It’s worth the extra effort to place your labelled boxes in the rooms their contents belong in. Just as you packed room by room, you can unpack room by room.
- Look after yourself
Above all, take some time out. Make sure you’re sticking to your regular sleep schedule, eat well and prioritise your exercise regime. By making sure you continue to look after your wellbeing, it can help take the pressure off, especially if you need to plan your move around full-time work and family. You don’t need to do it all at once.
Remember, accept the experience and the stresses it can cause for what it is and its okay to ask for help from family or friends if you need to. So load up your playlist with your favourite tracks, set a plan of action and get ready to smash that move! And we totally support the idea of treating yourself to a massage or a new home item as a reward after to celebrate.
Oh and takeaway is a must on your first night in! No one wants to cook!
