From Little Things, Big Things Grow: Jaimee Wilson

She is the Beauty Queen behind the CBR Woman instagram that we just can’t get enough of, and if you aren’t following it – get on it STAT! She is single handedly promoting some of Canberra’s best lady movers and shakers. We got to sit with her and get the low down on where this empowerment started.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into your business?

Hey There! My name is Jaimee and I am 22 years old. I am a Canberra girl from the start, however my family have recently moved to the Sunshine coast, so that is on the goals list. I am half way through my communication and media degree at UC, and I finished my makeup course in 2017. This is when I started my freelance makeup business and got super interested in women in business and how women create their dream life! I spend most of my time with my boyfriend (Levi) and I also work at MECCA part time.

Can you walk us through the background of where the passion comes from?

I joined the business chicks community as soon as I launched my makeup business, I was so dedicated to learning as much as I could from all the workshops and events that they provided. I was honestly blown away by the strength of the community and was overjoyed to finally meet some like minded women. So I wanted to create a place where women can be recognised, supported and to share their stories and I literally woke up one morning and without thinking anymore about it, created The CBR Woman on instagram. I feel so excited to be able to provide a platform and share the stories of local boss women, allowing other women to be inspired and to inspire, learn from and support each other.

What was the most challenging aspect you’ve faced so far?

I think honestly the most challenging thing so far has been the time it takes. I love having a meaningful project to dedicate my time to, but there is so much work that goes into it behind the scenes. I want to make sure I do everyone justice when sharing their stories and it is so worth it. Another thing is, during isolation it has been a little hard to stay inspired and motivated! But at the same time, I have been able to share this with The CBR Woman network, as it is something we are all struggling with at the moment. It has been great to have some amazing women to bounce ideas off, as well as share tips and tricks. It is going to be super exciting to organise some events once we can get back to normal.

And what’s been the most amazing experience?

It has been so amazing to see how quickly the community has grown and how everyone stands by each other and supports each other. I have never seen a more connected and supportive community. It has also been amazing to hear everyones stories of how they got to where they are and basically took control of their lives. I feel so grateful to be able to literally pitch all my ideas to this community and receive supportive and constructive advice. Everyone has each other’s best interests.

What’s the biggest piece of advice you have for someone looking to chase their dreams/passion or try something new?

I believe the most important thing is to invest in yourself and educate yourself, however and whenever you can! Participate in workshops, online courses, read books from business owners and industry professionals. You can never stop learning! Forget any negative thoughts and comments (from others or yourself), BACK YOURSELF! You know what you can make happen, it might not happen overnight but every small step you take is a step closer to achieving your dream. The CBR Woman has an ebook available to the girl gang, focusing on the boss woman mindset! Give it a read, I’d love to know what you think!

What does an ideal day look like to you?

Oh I love this question! Well to begin, I would be waking up on the sunshine coast in the summertime. Going for a walk and then an ocean swim and having a coffee on the beach. Spending time with my family and Levi, eating yummy pasta (my fave) and maybe even a massage. Finishing the day off with some vinos of course. Oh – and lots of puppy cuddles.

What keeps you Zen/Happy

I feel super happy when I feel like I am being productive, and ticking things off my to do list. In saying this though, it is really important to keep a balance (which I have only just started doing oopsie). I love spending time in the sunshine, going for walks and spending time with all of my loves!
